Don't cry, Little Thai!! Soon we'll be able to communicate...
Learn To Speak a Little Thai With Me!!
So I've decided that I'm going to start learning one new Thai word or phrase a day. I figure it's a good start. If you're into it, why not learn with me? I'll post the word up here daily.
Note that if you are guy, replace "Ka" with "Krap".
Let's go over some basic words that I already know (I don't really know many). This list will be added to with the words/phrases of the day as we go:
| Hello | Sawadee-Ka |
| Thank you | Kop-kun Ka |
| Yes | Chai |
| No | Mai chai (sounds like mai thai) |
| Cheers | Chuck-dee Ka |
| How much? | Tow-rai? |
| How are you? | Sabai-dee mai? |
| I'm fine, thanks | Sabai-dee ka |
| No problem/no worries/never mind/it's cool/you're welcome | Mai pen rai |
| I understand | Kao chai |
| I don't understand | Mai kao chai |
| Cold water | Nam yen |
| What is your name? | Koon choo a-rai? |
| Toilet / bathroom | Hawng-nam |
| I'm sorry | Koh-thod ka |
| Go straight | Trong pai |
| 1 | neung |
| 2 | song |
| 3 | sam |
| 4 | see |
| 5 | ha |
| 6 | hok |
| 7 | jed |
| 8 | bad |
| 9 | gao |
| 10 | sib |
| 11 | sib et |
| 12 | sib song |
| 13 | sib see |
So today, we're going to learn:
Turn Left --> Lao Sai
(this came in very useful for me last Saturday night when I was trying to direct my taxi driver to my friend Martha's who lives in the middle of nowhere!)
